This half-day training will:

  • Introduce participants to the Pediatric Environmental Health Toolkit, a new clinical
    resource that has been endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics;
  • Provide free Toolkit materials for providers including pocket references and guidance cards;
  • Include attractive patient education materials, including "Prescription for Prevention" slips and magnets.

About the Training:

Focuses on the relationship between environmental exposures and children’s health and clinical use of the Toolkit.


Sessions presented by physician experts in environmental health include:

  • The identification of routes of exposure to common toxic chemicals and substances including metals (mercury, lead, arsenic), solvents, pesticides, and persistent organic compounds such as PCBs;
  • links between these toxic chemicals and health effects;
  • Anticipatory guidance keyed to well-child visits;
  • Patient communications on environmental health issues;
  • Key concepts on the unique vulnerabilities of children.

Attendees will commit to training 5 colleagues and using the Toolkit in their practice for 3 months.

This activity has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 4 Prescribed credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians.
AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association as equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. When applying for the AMA PRA, Prescribed credit earned must be reported as Prescribed credit, not as Category 1.

Attendance at this training meets the criteria for Contact Hours for relicensure.
